lizards sleeping togeather

CollaredsGuy Aug 18, 2008 06:32 PM

i keep hearing about how anti social lizards, but yet everyting ive seen provesthe contrary. i have two hides in my tank, yet, the three lizards i have in there, all sleep in one hide. and its the same hide. every day!!! they dont even use the other one!! its kind of a waste of money!! do they prefer a certain kind of hide? are they doing it for warmth? they all squeeze into one hide and sleep on top of each other!! its crazy!! idk. not sure if it is social behavior, but i can tell you i woudnt be cramped in a small hide like that with oter lizards!! idk!!!

Hrm, not sure where you have heard that lizards are anti-social because as you have seen they aren't. The three lizards in one terrarium, are they one male and two females?? They do sleep together in small spaces for heat and safety reasons.

Now where 'anti-social' might come from is if you house two male lizards together. That is a big no-no, as they will fight to establish dominance and well the loser can lose his life.

Good to hear that they are doing well though.

I actually have two males together and they are doing fine, but there is no female present, and I watch them very carefully. They sleep together in the same cave as well. I think Eve allows males to socialize, but again, you have to be very vigilant.

thats just the thing its two males anda female!!!! someone told me that lizards prefer to be alone, rather then togeather, and housing two lizards togeather would stress one out. i dont believe this, and now i totally dont!! these guys are all pals!! they like each other alot!!

Guy, that can change during breeding season. Just be watchful.

Here ya go guy, lol, this was an old pic taken outside, I had a rubbermaid with some of my collareds that were out sunning, and a cave at one end. By days end none were to be seen, I lifted the one cave and this is what I found.

A REAL PILE- UP , hahhahahaa ! Males and females. Reminded me of one of those little clown cars at the circus, so tiny, but clowns keep coming out, ya have to wonder how they all fit, LMAO

CLOSE BONDING, hehehehhe

That's because you're not a lizard! (I suspect the one on the bottom feels the warmest and the safest. A predator will eat all the guys on the top first. And anyway...who cares about breathing! LOL)

Ahhha hahaha, must be nice and SNUG under there ;p How ya doing? How are all the scalys?

I am doing great, Eve. My scalys are all healthy and that is the most important thing in my life! I don't have any Collards, but I love this forum. It's a great "family", and I am getting mighty tempted to "broaden my horizons". But these guys are all so darned cute. How can you ever choose?

PHEve Aug 21, 2008 02:51 PM

Ha, ya can't choose Maureen, thats's why I have so dang many, lol, they are so beautiful, DIVERSE in color, size, patterns.

**And to make it worse. they are really super sweet and friendly ( Most) and if they are not when arriving, if you handle and work with them they become friendly.
Oh and did I leave out when they are hatching, like other species it is just magnicient to watch, and oh sooooooo cute after emerging, all full of brightness,

DID I temp you yet? LMAO

(Glad your guys are all healthy)

I'm a goner now, for sure. I'll be dreaming about them. When I was a kid, used to have a recurring dream about driving up to a ramshackle old abandoned house and looking under a crumbling wood front step and seeing Chuckwallas of every size and color, and wondering how many of them I could actually gather up and take home with me. (Yeh, I had it bad). Well, I'm beginning to feel like that as I look at all the Collared Eye-Candy pictures. They are cutie booties!
