Tips for a first time owner

drgnlover Sep 04, 2003 05:24 PM

Hello,

I have been reading posts for a while now, learning as much as I can. I recently took on the endeavor to purchase a beautiful female beareded from a local breeder. She's about 10" inches total length. When we picked her out she looked good, little skinny but good. Thought that once she got a little adjusted she would eat. Well she doesn't eat much yet and looks skinny now. Can anybody tell me some tips to stimulate appetitie or help her gain some weight?? She's been offered mealworns, waxworms, and crickets with greens avail. also. Does she just need more time to adjust? She's been there for about a week or so. Sorry just want to give her the best shot, and to learn the best.

Thanks in advance for any help provided

Andy

it may take her time to settle in, what is your setup like? temps? lighting? substrate?
a week is still early, some do take some time, keep her hydrated via mistings or by using a dropper and just dropping water on her snout. keep offering her the greens daily and crickets, has she eaten anything? is she pooping? a good thing to do is get a fecal done to rule out parasites and give you both the best start possible..

Temps I think are right, she has a basking spot that's 100 F and there is a cooler side that stays right around 79 F. I use repti carpet as substrate. She has pooped a couple times, very small amnts. I am keeping her hydrated, just wanted to get her to eat also ... Thanks for your help

increase that basking spot up to 105-115 bet that will get her more active, your temps are a bit too cool. make sure the enclosure is nice and bright, if you are using a florecent uvb tube you can also add another regular florecent to that for brightness. .the brighter the better
