Do Beardies get age spots?

niddy Aug 19, 2008 01:17 PM

My Albie has developed these dark spots on his back. I'm not sure how old he is because he's a rescue, but he's AT LEAST 5 years old... (though by his head size compared to the other dragon I adopted with him who was also at least 5 years old, I'm thinking Albie's older)

Anyway, should I be worried? I can probably post pics later tonight.

Thanks, guys!

far as I know they don't. In fact haven't heard of any animal besides humans to get 'age spots' or 'liver spots' as they reach the golden years.

Also, I don't think head size is any indication of age in dragons. Old males can have smaller heads than two year old females.

Good clear pictures of the spots in questions, especially using a macro lens, will be very helpful to know if the spots are just natural pigment, dirt, mites, or some sort of skin issue.

I bet if you put him outside in the sun for the day they'll go away at least temporarily. Some of my older light colored ones get spots late in the season. After they come in from the outside they usually look the best color possible.

Oh dear...um I HAVE been taking him outside in the sun. And yes the dark spots started about the same time. Duh...I didn't even make that connection. Could that be it? Shoot. It can't be sunburn, can it? His overall color seems darker now that I look again...hmmm

Thanks,

I think you're reading my post wrong. I said the spots go away when I leave mine in the sun. I think the spots could be them darkening before the start of brumation. If you're worried I'd get a vet to look at them.
