70 days

wvherp Aug 19, 2008 04:18 PM

Well, it has been 70 days since my eggs were laid and still no pipping. Temps have been in the 80-84 range the entire time with 80-100% humidity. All the eggs except one look good. The one has mold on one end of it and is smaller, elongated. Hard to keep patient, wondering if they all could be dead in the eggs. Should I cut one or two to see what is going on, or should I just leave them alone?
Thanks
Joel

It's possible to cut open an egg, see if the snake is alive in it, and tape the egg closed (if there's a live snake in the egg). But I wouldn't do that - I'd simply keep waiting.

They should start hatching sometime this week.

I normally leave them lone!!!in the case of pips and no pips...unlike the Ball Python folks who i have seen several cuts succesful ..i seem to cut an Artery???...........I had a dozen eggs from a hybid that only 3 hatched(all white and leathery) in a chamber with the rest ....The rest went to crap

Be Patient, just wait. They'll pip when they are ready.

Thanks for all the info. Earlier tonight I did cut one of the eggs. It was the "bad" one that was smaller and covered with mold. Sure enough there was a baby in the egg. It was tiny, maybe 4 inches and its brain was outside its head. Needless to say it was not alive. I will leave the other ones alone. Hopefully they will hatch soon.

What if they go into 90 or 100 days? Would it be likely the snakes inside would be dead?

Again thanks, this is my first clutch so all your info helps.

If the eggs are dead they should mold and start to smell like rotten eggs(they stink!).
I would wait.

Most of my clutches have gone into 80 days or more this year.. No worries..
