ilovemyleo Sep 04, 2003 06:03 PM

Can I put plants in my leo's house. Its a 10 gallon tank that currently has to hide huts. I ask because his favorite place to run around in on my kitchen counter where all the house plants are but I fear him getting sick from them. Any suggestions?????????
Thanks!!!!!!!

I was told just to wash off the plants in warm water and let them dry. So far I've had them in my 30 gal leo tank for about 2 weeks. No problems yet.

Just try not to get anything poisonous, because if you feed crickets and a cricket eats some of the plant and then the gecko eats the cricket it might be bad news. Pothos and snake plant are always good choices, and seem pretty hardy.

I use fake plants...took them out recently just to re-orient the new cage. I have never had a problem. Just make sure you get stuff that is non-toxic and that you clean them before introducing them to a cage setup.

I ended up taking out a fake plant recently cause that's where my Leo decided she was gonna make her outhouse. Easier cleaning if I don't have to worry about cleaning the fake plant every week as well.

I used real plants when I first got into reptiles. The only problem I had was that I fed the reptiles I had at the time (Frilled Dragons) crickets and they love to breed in the plant dirt, so I had baby crickets all over my tank.

I like fake plants much better, a lot easier to clean.
