Rainbow Coloration Question...

mconstantbabble Aug 20, 2008 08:27 PM

Hello all, trying to learn all I can about BRB's, almost all of my experience has been with big lizards.
I know that "most" Monitors lose some of their vibrancy as they age.
Argentine Tegu's get brighter as they age.
Question for the day...How doese the color change on BRB's as they mature...is their color solely dependant on their parent's etc.
Thanks!

Have several series of poics on individuals, here's Amber from first born to semi recently...

This was the first pic I have showing Amber on 08/06/2005, not very clear but you can see Savannah around the water bowl and many of her babies crawling around. Amber is the one on the right side down on the newspaper.

Pic #2 shows Amber much clearer, you can really see her lack of crescents

A cropped closeup of just her from pic 2

When I was putting the individual babies into their own tubs, I saw her and thought "wow, what do we have here?" I had to take a couple of pics right away. You can see she still has her umbilical. Of course I gave her card number 1 from her litter - SA-PO-01

Now it's 09/30/2005, right after her second shed and the blush in her side medalions is starting to show.

11/03/2005 Three months old, just after third shed.

11/13/2005 A little over three months old, a week and half after third shed.

12/20/2005, outside in my cherry tree in natural light, WOW, this girl is starting to really glow. BTW, she shed just before these pics were taken.

Another pic on 12/20, inside under incandescent lighting

Two more pics on 12/20, outside again on the sidewalk one showing each side

Two pics from 06/01/2006, new pics for the website launch

07/11/2006, I took this pic with Amber, two Hypo's Dottie is more orange and Mickey is mostly toward the right, towards the left is Hook, one of my bullseyes, in the middle is Amber and toewards the right is Rose. I love this shot as it shows a LOT of variety in colors/patterns.

07/11 again, just Amber

09/04/2006, now just over a year old

11/03/2006, not a great pic but still a great subject

These four pics are from 01/12/2006. She was definately a great choice for holding back.

Most orange ones get better each time they shed through the first 18 months. Redder ones also get better as they grow but some can get too dark. Really nicely colored adults stay really nice through at least their first 12 years.

What happens after 12 years? Do they sometimes get darker in color or fade a bit?

Renee,
...My older ones go through periods where they sometimes look great and then at other times look a little less bright and colorful.
