My male has always been a pain to measure so I always give a rough idea or go by his skin when he sheds. Do you measure it while it is still damp or when it dries? He just now finished shedding and I was curious the exact way to do it

No matter which way you do it, you will not get an accurate measurement as the skin stretches significantly during the shedding process. You could use it to track trends if you measured it the same way each time and there were not tears/missing pieces/etc but it would not be a true measure of the length of your snake.

If you really want top get a good measurement I use string and just start at the head and take the string along its body and then measure the string.Try to use string that does not stretch at all.
I also use the string method, on the less fiesty ones
. For those I use this
how about putting clamps on both ends of the snake to prevent him from moving?
jk.... I use a string for all of my boas and pythons. Most just don't like to stay still.
