My male retic hasn't eaten in a 3 months.I don't know why need help. He's 13 feet long the temps in his cage are 86 and 98 basking spot.Humidity 70 percent. He's always been a great feeder. Some people say he sexually mature and not to worry. He's been to the vet about 6 six months ago and he was fine.Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

Give them a girl!!!

I can tell you this much. My tic did the same thing last year. I brought him in and they noticed he had RI. I was told by several people that he needed a girl. Now, that may and may not be the case with your guys. You have to look at everything. Has the snake been moved. Is there more traffic in that area. What type of food are you feeding it, have you always gotten it from the same place. Did you recently change from Rats to Rabbits. Have you tried Pre Killed. When is the last time you tried to feed, because if you try to often it could stress them out.

For the one that took it to the vet, you may be in the clear but for the other poster, get yours in if you have not. Don't make the same mistake I did with my burm and thought everything was OK, just to find her dead at the end of month 3. To this day, I regret not brining her in, when she stopped eating. I would much rather spend that money to be safe. That was a lesson learned the hard way.

I do have a ball python that goes off feed from Oct to Late April. Like clock work. The first year it scared me, so it could be very healthy just does not want to eat. You will soon know when it is hungry. It will be looking for food in the cage.

I am not expert, just giving you what I have gone through.

Allot of retics are cycling into breeding mode this time of year. My retics cycle off of feed between June and October and don't come back on until November through January. If your retic is sexually mature (as early as 18 months in some)and your husbandry is correct then this is likely the issue. If this is the case there is nothing to worry about as he will accept food again when he is ready. Look for him to start wandering his cage, pushing to get out, and in some retics, face rubbing. These are also signs that he has cycled into breeding mode.
Best regards,
Shane
