Blizzard morph effecting temperment?

Nightfall Aug 23, 2008 10:01 AM

Hello everyone, I have a question that popped into my head as I am seriously considering getting myself a Leopard Gecko.

I have seen throughout the web many keepers claiming that Leo's of the Blizzard morph tend to be more aggressive, defensive or possibly- more jumpy/alert than other Leopard geckos.

I am trying to see if there's a real basis to this claim. How are your Blizzards? do they exhibit a behavior which can be described as "out of the ordinary" when compared to other Leos?

Any confirmed explanation as to why?(Speculations we have in abundance... just asking since it is possible that we may have missed some article that is available or somesuch)

Thanks in advance,

Oren

I know of no such article, but I own two blizzards. This may very well be true. When I introduced a male to one of my females she was really agressive toward him and visiously attacked him when he nips her neck and tail while mounting. At first I just thought she was a "hot" female, but she is usually skiddish too. I do, however do not regularly handle my leos...if they are content to stay in their dwelling, then I am content knowing they feel safe and happy. My other blizzard is a bit more tame...it certainly doesn't come running to get into my hand or anything, but it doesn't seem to mind it.

I also own two blizzards and they are both female. I raised both of mine from hatchlings and they are by far my nicest and most socail geckos. Mine get along with all my other leos great and will crawl into my hand with out thinking twice. I doubt that a particular color of a leo will effect their personality or behavior.

Myth,
Ive had every morph and its all just luck of the draw. Some geckos are just aggresive and people seem to blame the morph. Ive had very docile geckos have babies which do nothing but hiss, bark and crap and aggresive adults which have very docile babies. My best advice would be to goto a show where you can handle thte gecko before purchasing them, or specifically asking a small breeder to recommend you a polite geckos. Big name breeders pay no attention to gecko personalities.
