Is my snake ok?

theLady Aug 23, 2008 03:10 PM

I posted previously about bumps on my snake's belly. We considered water blisters and have been treating her accordingly. But the bumps have gone down, and now her skin is still lookin pretty bad under her head and down her belly a bit. It almost appears like her scales are loose, and jagged; and her skin is loose, i could pinch a chunk of skin to one side of her with my fingers. i noticed that she seemed "puffier" where her neck meets her head. i don't know what's wrong!!!

here is her belly about 2 days ago:

here is a image of her today (with loose skin):

and another one that shows the brown coloration on her side as well(today):

can anybody help?!

I would try to find a good herp vet in your area and take that snake in for an examination. Is there belly heat in it's enclosure? How hot is it? Is there a lot of humidity? I don't know what the problem is, but if you can find a good vet I think it wouldn't hurt to pay him (or her) a visit.

i've been looking!! it seems that herp vets are rare in phoenix, grrr. there are no belly pads. her cage is very clean, just treated her for mites. i have taken out her water dishes and have been treating her with betadine. i don't know what to do.

The problem if it has not yet will develop into septicemia if not treated with broad spectrum antibiotics, make sure cage is VERY dry and if it is gone to the blood stream there is little you can do but treat with antibiotics and even then the prognosis in my opinion is grave but not impossible to treat.

Damn, that doesn't sound good. is this harmful/painful to my snake? i just noticed, her scales are like jagged at the right angles, there is a clear skin coming undone on her scales. any specific antibiotics? i have been wiping her down w betadine the last few days, and took her water dishes out.

Unfortunately If that is what it has it is almost always fatal.

Not sure what med's you would need, but def would be a scripted type of broad spectrum antibiotic.

Hope it is something different.

turns out betadine is a very drying medication. the vet said her scales were probably dried out from the betadine treatments. and it was not septicemia. she wanted to give my snake an injection of vitamins, for an extra 50 bucks. no thanks, got some vitamin spray on her food this morning, she should be gettin better!!

Like I said the pic's where blurry, she look like she was red and swollen and with the blister problem I assumed the worst, blister disease often leads to septicemia untreated.

Glad that was not it!!!

I said a prayer for ya!!!

Not to god though...
