sick hatchling

ok u see my friend (not me) bought 2 baby res hatchlings one is sick he seems to be shedding his scutes but hes to young to shed also the top of his head is peeling now all he does is bask or sit on the filter he dosnt run when u approch him iv had a turtle for about 2-3 years now and i think he has a respitory infection (her turtle not mine) does n e 1 no how to treat this its alot of money to take to the vet

No one would have told you or your friend that it was not a strong possibility that the hatchlings turtle would get sick, and that it would cost a lot of money at the vet. The turtle absolutely needs veterinary care, and there is no amount of home remedies they can help it. If your friend is not capable of paying the vet bill, urge him to give it away to someone who will take care of it. Not taking this turtle in for treatment would be animal abuse, and is considered a felony in many places. If your friend is not willing to pay money for the vet, than they have absolutely no business taking care of a living animal dependent upon them solely for their welfare.

If its 2-3 years old its not too young to shed its scutes and turtles do she thier skin so its normal although if you see alot then thats probably do to over growth cause too much and too often feeding and high water temps. Why doi you think it sick, RES can spend hours each day basking if it hoilding its held up high then it should be fine. If you had it that long probably knows you and it sees no reason to run away. It does seem a bit in active do
