help with minor URI

gtp302 Aug 24, 2008 12:28 AM

hello I tried searching the forum as i knew many would have mentioned this but 100's of pages came so am just posting it,
I just noticed my sub-adult biak was wheezing a bit when i took her out of the enclosure this is the first time i hear this from her and she seems to be healthy with tight coils, doesn't refuse meals and no mucus or no open mouth breathing, so it should be a minor case right? I am putting a heat pad in there to raise the temp a bit but after that is there any other simple solutions that can be done? I've read about the antibiotics but Maxwell writes that it also requires a few injections along with them so was thinking something else that didn't require so much. any solutions that you breeders might have used would be appreciated
thank you in advance

Yes, this is just a minor case, but that does not mean to take it lightly. I would raise the heat like you said but also make sure the humidity is at the right percent. Make sure the humidity is at least at 80%.

Good Luck!

If it is an RI, mild or not, get it to a vet. Also keep in mind that wheezing can often be heard if the animal is getting ready to shed and may not be an RI at all.

Good luck,
Bart
