I have a male vieled chameleon that had an eye infection that made hiseye stay shut. After a week of medication, his eye is back open. But their might be a problem. Around the eye(I guess it would be his eyebrow) there is a wierd greenish stuff. It kind grows like a fungus or something. Some of it just flakes off. I have a topical antibiotic that wa for his eye. Should I put it on the green stuff? I dont want whatever it is to spread to his eye. Thank you, jrbl

Hi Jrbl,

Can you take a picture of his eye??? Is he rubbing it on a plant or branch??

Our experience with eye infections is not to quit using the medicated ointment too soon... it needs like 10 days to really clear up and go away. Some chams can have chronic eye problems due to minor injuries from rubbing. We have one cham that gets ointment every other month sometimes - he keeps irratating the eye!! *sigh* We have contemplated a rubber-coated room for him... *LOL*

See if you can determine the source of the green matter. Or post a clear picture, if you can.

So I should keep giving my chameleon his antibiotic in his eye? I also got some oral antibiotic(Baytril) from the vet, should I keep giving him that too? THe vet said the baytril would probably help the most. Thanks, jrbl
