Busy Black Pastel

tombarnhart Aug 24, 2008 07:40 PM

This season I bred a black pastel to a yellow belly female. I observed 5 copulations between the two. I also bred a cinny pewter to the yellow belly and observed 2 copulations between them. On Friday a silverish looking snake hatched out that I assumed was a black pastel yellow belly. Then on Saturday this hatched out, which looks nothing like the first combo that hatched out on Friday. It's pattern is very broken and speckled and it's more orange than the other black pastel clutchmate. So I'm wondering if this is the black pastel/yellow belly and the first one I hatched out was a cinnabelly from the pewter copulations.

Let me know what you think about this one.

Thanks,
Tom

Here is a pic of what I'm now thinking may be a cinnabelly and not a black pastel yellow belly.

I think you are right Tom. The Cinny combo looks similar to one I have seen before -- yours is prettier I think. The Black Pastel combo is terrific!!! I will bet you are using Ian's line -- as do I. Sweet combo!!!! Congrats!

Thanks Bill. Actually I'm using a captive hatched black pastel that I bought from Ian in 2005. But it seems to throw really nice offspring. I guess I'll find out for sure in a few years what's going on with these babies..

Thanks,
Tom

Wow..Look at the way the bp let the yb(or vice-versa)distort the side pattern on it,and the striping on the dorsal..Too me it's much better looking than the cinny cross..Congrats on hatching it out!

Yeah, after seeing pics of your cinnabellies I began doubting my original thought of black pastel YB.

Thanks,
Tom

looks like a cinny/black pastel, just by looking at the head is a giveaway.
