Daytona Show Report?

Jeff Clark Aug 25, 2008 09:11 AM

I was too busy working my table to see much of the show. I took zero PICs. I did get to meet some people from the forum and talk to lots of old friends. I sold all the babies I had. The crowd was pretty good saturday and a little thin on sunday. Daytona weather was great both days but I drove through hundreds of miles of heavy rain going to the show and coming home last night. Several people told me that their flights into Orlando, Jacksonville and Daytona on thursday and friday were the roughest airline flights they had ever been on. The only snake I bought was a female 2007 het hypo from East Bay. John is good to deal with and it was nice to see that at least someone from California knows how to make it across the country. Somebody (Aubrey or Russ) please give us a full show report from the Rainbow Boa perspective.

I forgot to mention that Jeff Barringer shot an interview of me with one of my snakes. It should be posted on kingsnake and YouTube later in the week.

I didn't take a whole lot of pictures, but I did take some. I'll post a full report for everyone either tonight or tommorrow.

Congrats on selling all your babies, Jeff. It was great to finally meet you in person!

Honestly, i didn't see much rainbow action at all. . i think i saw maybe 2 other rainbows besides the one at Jeff's table.

Unfortunately i am moving in a week and am DOWNSIZING my collection, so i ended up 3 reptiles short when all was said and done, because of that i was to depressed to come back sunday . . although it took all my willpower not to pick up one of your animals Jeff.

All that aside it was a pretty good show, although a bit light on rainbows for my taste.

Really? I saw several tables with rainbows. Granted, not a whole ton of them, but I probably saw about 8 or 9 tables that had them. I took home a pretty cool one.... pictures will be posted in the next day or so.

I saw BRBs on the table at Ophiological Services ($100) and Tom Davis had them as did Jon Carbone ($100). I think one of the big importer dealers had some. The table right next to me SSnakes had a pair of yearlings. East Bay had two yearling hypos ($3000) and two hets ($800). At one table I saw one labled as anerythristic ($3500) though it looked like a normal dark animal to me. Incredible Pets had some labled as Peruvians ($200) and they looked like they might be the real deal. A Peruvian on my table was the only other one that I know about at the show. I saw a couple of Colombian Rainbows. The Argentinians I had may have been the only ones at the show. I did not even get up stairs or into the gallery area at the front of the building. Overall at the show there were not really enough BRBs and not enough people interested in buying exceptional ones. Most of my sales were multiple sales to dealers and petstore owners and I could have sold several more dozen to them. I brough some yearlings back home with me though I do think having them on my table helped to sell the babies. It seemed to me that there were too many Ball Pythons by a factor of ten and that BP morph prices have nose dived to where they are almost reasonable. There was a pretty large number of Bci morphs. There were not nearly as many of the BIG Pythons as in the past thanks? to new laws in Florida. Ratsnake and King and Milksnakes still seem way underpriced to me for what wonderful pets they make. I was impressed that for the first time at the show there were true CB Muellers Chameleons. The turtle breeders seem to be producing more interesting species every year. There seemed to be fewer Beardies and Leopard Geckos than in the past. I wish I had had more time to look.

"The only snake I bought was a female 2007 het hypo..."

Just kidding, post pics when you get a chance.

Thanks,
Ed

Ed,
...I have been on the dark side for awhile. I now have 4 pairs of hets/possible hets. I am hoping to produce hypos from the oldest pair next year.

Hey Jeff,

Actually, I like the hypos, at least from what I can tell
from the pictures. They look beautiful. I might get one for
a future project if things "fall into place."

Thanks,
Ed

Hey, nothing wrong with that, hypos are HOT

but HOPEFULLY, you produce tons, undercut everybody, and help bring the prices down!!!
