New Rack Build

IkeLightner Aug 25, 2008 12:35 PM

Hello All,

This summer I took on the task of building my first snake rack. I built it to house my 1.3 group of BRBs. I made the rack from 3/4'' melamine, and use the IRIS VE175 tubs. I really like the tubs large size which gives the snakes more than enough room and am happy with the steady heat and humidity levels I am able to create with this rack. Please comment and don't be shy, I'd be interested to know what you think both good or bad.

I heat the rack with heat tape and control it's temperature with a Herpstat Pro.

sorry I am still only able to post three pics per message so here are the last few rack pics. Thanks for looking!

Oh yeah, and I went ahead and threw in one pic of my 07' Dave Colling female Brazita. I know it's a blurry pic but you can sitll see her colors pretty well.

Hey Ike, nice looking rack!!!

To post multiple pics in one post you need to get the pic address. I see you are using the KS photo gallery, to get your addresses, go to the photo area and get your individual pic up and displayed. (sometimes there is a larger image option) Then right click on pic and select properties from drop down menu. In the properties is the actual address, copy paste that.

for example, here is the address of one of your pics...

http://gallery.kingsnake.com/data/129579rack_1.jpg

to get it to show you need to add img tags like this (note - I have added spaces in the img tags so they won't work and you can see them)

[i mg]http://gallery.kingsnake.com/data/129579rack_1.jpg[/i mg]

and again without the spaces and your pic shows up...

one nice thing is you can add text between the pics, all your pics with comments....

Here's the rack where it goes in the corner, compolete with drink on top (or is that a candle?)

Here is a tup open, with chip substrate, water shoebox and moss hide box

See how easy access lidless racks are??

And you can store your hook along side a tub.

Brazita a stunning female from some breeder guy

One hand is all it takes to close the tub, leaving the other hand free for a cold beverage etc. Note the hemostats stored alongside the other tub.

Leave it to the expert on multiple pics (and not just 5 or 6, more like 100's LOL) to give an amusing and informative view on how to post multiple pics.

Only disadvantage is it takes time to get the URL of each picture and add the img tags at either end then use preview to make sure the coding is right...

but the results are nice...

Yea . . we're moving into an apartment and having double digit snakes wasn't int he cards, not that easy to hide. . .

Yea i am getting rid of the hog islands and then I'm done (defiantly cant have the huge snakes around ATM)

So that leaves me with 2 red tails and a rainbow, and some leppy geckos. . .

kinda sad

I'm sure ill get back into it soon. . and i still might try to pick up a baby rainbow, my GF says she might buy me one for x-mas. . who knows?

But yea i am finishing up college ATM so things are hectic.

The Brazilian wasn't mine exactly, it was apart of a breeding project gone wrong.

Long story short, MY Brazilian got out of the bin that they were breeding in, which was the male. . so blah, he was my favorite snake of my collection

You mean your male BRB disappeared and you never found him again? That really sucks!

Some day you'll be in a place where you can get another...and by then there will probably be 10 billion (approximate estimate)different BRB morphs to choose from!

Hey thanks, I thought the same thing myself.

As far as how much it cost lets see here, the wood I bought 3 sheets of 4X8 melamine that ran me about $90, the 4 tubs were the most expensive thing for me and they cost $120 in all, the heat tape was cheap at something like $2 per foot and I bought 6 feet worth, and lastly the thermostat was a little over $100, so I guess it cost me something like $350, not including my time spent on the project which I'd estimate I spent somewhere around 15-20 hours on it, but seeing that it was my first rack build I would think any future builds would take less time.
