Tonight I was peeking into the animal room and saw my jcp cage had a very fresh poop from one of my snakes. The poop seemed to be touching one of the grapevine branches laying on the cage floor. I slid the glass door open and wanted to move the branch so that it wasn't touching the poop. Then WHAM! my male jcp strikes at my hand. Reflexively I pulled my hand out and got a nice shot of adrenaline pumping. The male was laying on the cage floor and was poised to strike again. Normally my jcp's are pretty mellow, but I had forgotten my usual procedure to tap them gently on the head to signify my presence. I used a pair of forceps to tap him on the head then I moved the branch away without a problem.
This seven year old hasn't tagged me since he was a nippy hatchling. This time was definitely my fault. Sticking my hand into a nocturnal predator's cage at night isn't the best idea.
Took pics of my hand. This one is after I rinsed the dripping blood off. Cool to see where the teeth are and how only part of the mouth got me.
