Ouch! Just got nipped... (graphic)

KenW Aug 26, 2008 01:06 AM

Tonight I was peeking into the animal room and saw my jcp cage had a very fresh poop from one of my snakes. The poop seemed to be touching one of the grapevine branches laying on the cage floor. I slid the glass door open and wanted to move the branch so that it wasn't touching the poop. Then WHAM! my male jcp strikes at my hand. Reflexively I pulled my hand out and got a nice shot of adrenaline pumping. The male was laying on the cage floor and was poised to strike again. Normally my jcp's are pretty mellow, but I had forgotten my usual procedure to tap them gently on the head to signify my presence. I used a pair of forceps to tap him on the head then I moved the branch away without a problem.

This seven year old hasn't tagged me since he was a nippy hatchling. This time was definitely my fault. Sticking my hand into a nocturnal predator's cage at night isn't the best idea.

Took pics of my hand. This one is after I rinsed the dripping blood off. Cool to see where the teeth are and how only part of the mouth got me.

Haha!

I got tagged by one of my morelia last night, under the EXACT same circumstances as you!

The only difference was that I had just gotten home from relocating a LARGE atrox that had my adrenalin already flowing pretty good!

...and I didn't get pics.

"Sticking my hand into a nocturnal predator's cage at night isn't the best idea."

LOL! Been there, done that! You should have seen my wife as I apologized to my big JCP as she had my arm wrapped...I then explained to her, "That poor thing though it was time to eat...from her standpoint, I just cheated her out of a meal!".

Never a dull moment with Morelia!
