ingenius or stupid?

trex8692 Aug 26, 2008 03:38 PM

just out of curiosity (ive posted alot of these):

people always rave about "leo get impacted with sand for no reason!!" and the others on the other side will say "they only do taht because of a lack of calcium dishes!!" and still others will say "they only get impacted because they cannot pass a bowel movement on the swallowed objects!!"

now what if we were to house a leo on a PURE calcium bedding? O.O!!! Now im not talkin calcisand, im actually saying buying 6 pounds of reptile calcium and using it as a substrate! (Like buying a bulk tub of REPCAL and dumping the contents onto the floor of a tank)

sure itll destroy wallets, but i was wondering if it was a feasible idea at all

what would you guys think??

I would be concerned about the amount of dust kicked up my your leo as it walks (or runs) through it. The fine particles could easily cause a respiratory infection.

beat me to the logic.....he's right. And you would have other problems. The calcium would get everywhere - all over the gecko (would be licking its eyes constantly), all over the walls (would have to clean the glass walls every few days), would be hard to artfuly decorate an aquarium (my opinion), smell would probably drive the gecko insane and cause respitory infection (maybe lung impaction?). Also it doesn't seem like calsium would mix well if the gecko tipped over its water dish.

-just thought to mull over ...nice job trying a different approach, though!
