High black okeetee from Daytona

BlueKing Aug 26, 2008 05:41 PM

One of the few things that appealed to me at Daytona this year. Thanks Randy! Of course there were many more, but you can't take em' all home. But I like this little yearling with his super black borders and strong red colors, what little there is...(Sorry for the weak pic - it was taken during a very cloudy day with no flash - will see if I can get another pic soon when we have some better weather here)

Hey Zee,
long time no see.
How's it going?
How's the golden corn project doing?

Corn snake for the Pittsburgh steelers. Or as we say in Cleveland the squeelers.

Very nice oak.

Hi there
Been overseas too much lately...
A small setback occured this year when my son got some assistance cleaning cages from my brother-in-law (while I was in Afghanistan). Some of the golden corns that had their cages labeled male and female inadvertently got mixed up when my son paired them up. So I had four out of five females paired up with each other, which resulted in only one of my hets laying seven eggs this year ... I was a little dissapointed to say the least, but overall happy because NONE of my snakes died in the eight months that I was out of country.
That small setback will not happen again next year though!!!

Other than that all the golden corns are doing fine (the original female has reached four feet in length now). The two golden babies are around two feet in length currently

Zee, That's a killer okeetee! Glad to see ya back! Jeff

BlueKing Aug 28, 2008 10:21 AM

Thanks Jeff.
Unfortunately I will have to go back overseas one last time in the near future. But my sons have done an excellent job keeping my collection alive whenever I'm gone (They should - I pay them for it, lol)!

That thing is sweet. I've always thought that with selective breeding an Okeetee could be produced that was basically a black spotted orange snake (no red). After all, we have oreo Pueblans. It looks like that example would be a component for a project like that.

Thanks Tim
I figured if someone would have a snake like that, I would see it at Daytona. After looking at literally thousands of cornsnakes for hours, I found that one...
