mix pieds with....

dude21361 Aug 26, 2008 08:07 PM

I was wondering what could be mixed with a pied to make her exhibit those visual morphs also. Another words I know that a pastel pied exists as well as a super pastel pied. Is it that a pied, being recessive, can only be bred to a codominant, in order to exhibit both the pied and the other morph? Can it be bred with a dominant or another recessive to accomplish this? Can a genetic stripe pied be produced or a spider pied? Thanks for your help and time.

Genetically speaking you can mix a pied with any type of morph; however, keep in mind a pied is a simple ressisive so when breeding a pied to anything is going to give you hets unless the pied gene is in both parents. Now with this said to get a double resessive you will have to breed het to het, which means you normally have a 1/16 odd of hitting the double combination. For example the Pied Clown just produced this month by the snake keeper. If you breed a pied to a domin gene it is just easier to get a double combination morph, of the top of my head I beleive if you breed the het back to the pied you should have a 1/4 odds of getting what you want.

Personally I at head patterns when thinking what I would want to make into a form of pied because pieds always have a normal head pattern for the morph (for example the head pattern on the pied clown looks like a normal clown) and then the bloches of white will very.

I hope this helps,
matt

thats pretty insane because I had a clown pied in mind this whole time and I forgot to mention it in the post. I think I have a pied project in the works right now but I want to throw another morph into the pied project. Any suggestions? Right now my list consists of high contrast albino pieds, clown pieds, lesser pieds, or super pastel pieds. I want all of them (dont we all) but I need to focus on only one other morph, so whats your opinions? Thanks
