I just got bit by by python

HappyHerpGirl Aug 26, 2008 10:37 PM

Straggles decided to go to town on my finger. I was giving her a psycho hamster and went to move the platform she was on then strike. She grabbed a hold of my finger and stared coiling around. She finally let go but it hurts like hell. I am sort of worried because it is very swallen and it looks like she broke the vain. Should I go to the doctor tonight or see how it is tomorrow?

I am use to feeding my corns pre killed food. I have heard of snakes that eat live mistaking there owners for dinner. I just have to be extra carfull around Strangles at feeding time

yha.... this is in the ball python forum... I got snagged by the emerald tree boa once... swelled up huge and was just puffy in the morning-- same thing happened when i got bit by the red tails or burms... the damn retic hurts...

Swelling should go down in a few hours-- keep it clean- wash it good- put some neo on it and enjoy your owner scars

The saying is true. If you play with snakes your going to get bit.
Welcome to the club. Soap and water should do the trick. 18 in. tongs will also help. Good luck. Claude

out of all the snakes that have decided to tag me over the years,i would say that the yellow anaconda(7 1/2',grabbed me on the left forearm, chewed for a couple minutes, then spit me out;the only time it ever bit me)hurt the worst, followed fairly closely by the 12' burm that had my entire hand, then the 8' female carpet that mistook me for her guinea pig(pain, pain, pain, carpets have respectable teeth).then there was the psycho black racer that chewed on me like a angry beagle with a tennis ball.i think it bit me like 15 or 16 times in less then a minute, earning it's place as cobra food.
but, like everyone else said, wash it with really warm water & antibacterial soap,if it's a bad bite, neosporin would'nt hurt.stay away fromalcohol gel, stings more then it's worth.also, keep a small spray bottle filled with cheap whiskey or vodka(not for you),if it bites again and won't let go,a quick spritz in the mouth/pit area will cause a rapid release.(on second thought, a small spritz for yourself would'nt hurt...)

I took a warm bath and the swelling did go down, Actually it felt like it popped back in place. I have only had her a few months and she is my first live feeder. I now know just to drop the rodent and run.
