How do i quarentine???

RedQuake Sep 04, 2003 10:48 PM

Well i did it, i called the breeder near me. We had a great conversation on the phone and then i got pictures of ALL of the babies she has via email. I've spent the better part of the night going through them all trying hard to pick

I believe they have all been housed separately or with their clutchmate so i'm wondering......if i buy a group should i house them all separately or can i put the females together? Do i need to quarentine them from eachother or just from my Boo?

I am getting a blizzard pair and i'm very excited about that There are a few other females i am interested in too.

I've been so giddy all night........i can't wait for them to arrive to their new homes

Anyways, thanks for the help

If your getting more than one animal from the same breeder there really isn't a need for quarantining them from themselves. Chances are if they have something they have both been exposed to it if they are living in the same reptile collection. Just keep them away from your BOO for 3 months or so.

Thankyou thankyou thankyou I was worried cause even though i have quite a few tanks i don't have them all set up at the moment hehehe The tank for the male blizzard is already setup and the UTH is running at the right temps. The tanks for the females are also set up (depending on how many i get i'll be breaking them up into groups determined by size).

Oh and about Boo. Tonight he was up on top of the large rock in his tank (i took pics, i'll post asap cause it was too cute). My brother was passing by so i asked if he wanted to see him. He came in and asked if it was a new gecko.......Boo has grown so much in the past two-three weeks that my brother didn't recognize him. Isn't that exciting lol. I still don't have a scale yet and i'm around Boo daily so i guess i'm not noticing the change.

Thanks for the responce

...You quarantine the newly aquired animal(s) you get, away from your current collection, in another room if you want.

When I quarantine, no matter if it is from a big name breeder, I still do it, I keep it in a 10 gallon tank in another room away from my breeding colony in my "gecko room"

I feed and water the quarantined gecko last from all the rest of the geckos. I also get fecals done. They are $10-$13 here, and I always keep some panacur on hand that my vet has given me if a parasite or something else should show up. She has shown me how to use it and how much to give.

I think quarainting is very important. You never know what the gecko could have, it could be healthy, or it could have a parasite. Keep it away from the rest until the quarantine period is done. I have heard people not quaranting (sp?) and they bring that gecko into their current stock and it could wipe some of them out, crypto can do that. It is always better to be SAFE than SORRY.

I agree quarentine is very important. Boo is so healthy and so is Zeek (my crested) and i love both of them so much that i couldn't bare to lose them now.

Thankyou for help
