Eggs arent looking so hot...suggestions?

cycluraman Aug 27, 2008 06:40 PM

My female rhino iguana laid 11 eggs last Wednesday am. We transferred them to the Hovabater to incubate with Hatchrite substrate. One week later, many of the eggs are sunken in and discolored. I've attached pictures - the camera makes the eggs look much more yellow than they are, but I think you get the point.

Now this our first time attempting to incubate, so I was hoping someone out there might have advice. I'm a little skeptical of the Hatchrite substrate - it says no need to add water - but I don't know if my eggs are getting enough moisture. Could this be leading to bad eggs?

Hoping to hear from someone who has seen good/bad eggs in the past.

I always place three or four layers of moist news paper over the eggs. This will provide moisture and will protect the eggs from scorching due to the heat element on the top of the incubator. It will also help you determine when your incubator needs a little water when the paper dries. When eggs begin to turn yellow it usually means they are going bad but do not remove them until you are ure they are bad. Sunken eggs also can mean dehydration. I always like to see a little bit of sweat on the glass or ceiling of the incubator.
