just thought i would ask if anyone here knows what to do? i got my male wamena back in may. he ate once 4 me a lg mouse but has not ate scince. he moves around at night and soaks every once in a while in his tub. he has two perchase a thick log and a samll perch. but he spends his days coiled up in the same spot on the bottom every day. i have tried feeding live small rat and lg mice he just kills them and leaves them. the teps are 78-85 deg in reptile room in his enclosure he has a basking spot of 87deg and the floor is 84 were he spends his time.humidity is hard to keep constant but most of the time i keep it around 60-80% i let it dry out every week, so if any suggestions would help please let me know. so he is not perching or eating

i keep my gtp in a nice 30"x25'x 12' 3 screen sided oceanic, with tin foil covering up the sides and top screen i use a 60watt light at night. my little manokowari is doing great she eats live and sheeds perfect but she is in a rubbermaid. i wanna be able 2 c my male wameana scince he is so big and awsome but if i have to put him in a rubbermaid also i will. whats with ventalation though. do gtps need lots of good ventalation like chameleons? if so how do people manage to keep them in rubbermaids their could not be more ventalation in those than in my oceanic?

thought i would just keep this thread going! today i have noticed another behavior that have never noticed in my male gtp. i wonder if u guys could tell me ehat he is doing?scince about noon he has been on the ground and in a strike position most of the time with his toung flicking, usually he is just sleeping all day long. it is lights out time and he is just staring at me flicking his toung a lot. i threw in a mouse a few hours ago and he seemed interested but did not strike! i could try a mouse again but i would rather give it to my little girl manokawari scince it is her food anyway. i do have f/t rat i could try feeding him tonight. it just seems he is in a feeding responce,or could it be he is getting ready wanting to breed? breeding time 4 gtps is usually this time o yr anyway right? sorry 4 all the q;s but i am hoping some one could shine some light my way. thanx

it seems that your female is doing well. maybe if you set the male up identically you will have more luck. some chondros do hang out on the ground now and then. set him up like you have her set up and LEAVE HIM ALONE for awhile. keep us updated. good luck.

I'm not sure what you mean by log perch. It's possible that the animal is too warm (87 is too warm) and that the perches are too large for him to perch comfortably. He may also feel too much in the open. I tend to think that grounding is a sign of stress. As a matter of fact, all his behaviors seem like a stressed snake. I would second the idea of housing like your other snake. chondros like privacy. I house mine in Greg Maxwell style cages. The only open side is the doors. The rest is enclosed and there is plenty of plants in there around the perches for them to feel comfortable. Babies that are housed in rubbermaid containers have all sides covered except the front so that they feel enclosed as well. I'd rehouse him. Wait a week or two and then offer a very hot f/t mouse on tongs. And by very hot, I mean very hot. Dip the head in near boiling water, dry and then offer. I get good feeding responses for the most part with a warmer animal. Good luck to you!
