heat tape

im building myself a rack system and had a few questions.
1. how many strips should i run if they are 3 inches wide?
2. ive read people say to use 3 inch wide but whats wrong with the 4 inch besides the price?
and last but not least will the heat tape melt the plastic rubbermaid container?

Which brand/wattage of heat tape and are you going to use a thermostat or control it manually. These would be the first questions to ask back.

yes i would use a thermostat and it would be flex watt unless theres a cheaper brand that i dont know about
