substrate for egg laying

ody Sep 04, 2003 11:58 PM

What type of substrate do some of you use for your females to lay their eggs in? I bought a large bag of somewhat fine vermiculite today for my female to use when she is ready (hopefully pretty soon). The vermiculite I got with my incubator is a lot larger chunks. This finer stuff just seems weird, almost like chunks of gold glitter or something. Anyway, just wanted some opinions on what you all use. I was gonna just use dirt, but I heard that was more prone to mold on the eggs...

To actually lay the eggs in, I use a mixture of peat dirt and sand. To incubate the eggs, I use vermiculite, some people also use perlite.
