Help With This Disagreement!

My husband is in charge of my website. He tries really hard with it, and has done a good job I think..I have no idea how that stuff works. Anyway on my site he has a link for care sheet that jumps straight to Dachiu's caresheet until I write one. I think he nees to somehow credit Dachiu in the link, or instead of a care sheet button, maybe a Links page with a link to Dachiu? He seem to think that it is ok that it just jumps there. I think it looks like it is part of our site. I think we need to point out more that it is NOT. I can't convince him otherwise. He thinks I am crazy. He is going to change it, but he is going to keep telling me I am crazy...so I just wanted some other people to give me thier opinions on this matter. I mean, IT WON'T hurt to give them credit, so I don't know what the big deal is. If I am crazy I guess go ahead and tell me...I mean about the website, not in general. But I am SURE i am right. Did any of this make sense.

If you want to see what I am talking about go to my site, but it is not necessary...just knowt that when you click on the words care sheet you end up on dachius site.

This one works fine. The other one has exceeded its bandwith.

People that worked hard and made the care sheet should get due credit. Tell your husband that having it look like it is your care sheet is kinda like theft.
There was someone a while back that had pictures of other peoples dragons on their site. One would assume they were his dragons, but many were recognized to be from other sites.
I know that he caught all kinds of h*ll over it.
You didn't do anything like that, but in anycase, I agree with you, give credit where credit is due.

you should give credit where credits due.. even though when i clicked on it it did open a new page with the dachiu's web adress at the top.. but others won't nessecarily be looking for that.. your right

how about this. make it so when you click on the care sheet link, it goes to another page on your site, stating that your care sheet is under construction, and then have links (with credit to the sites) to any care sheets you feel like linking to.

As a computer/web person, that's what I would do anyway...

Seems only fair to me to give them credit.
After all, you aren't only using their information, but their band-width as well.

Also, you could just contact them and ask what they think.

I am a graphic designer and I know that credit is VERY important. All the time. I find my graphics and my pages linked to at a lot of other sites... and it is very annoying if that page don't give me proper credit. So no... You are not crazy.

If your husband linked to MY site without naming my site at the link – I would email him and tell him to do so… after all it is my site – and I want the credit. I am sure Dachiu's thinks the same…

Being an artist, I know that without giving credit for any text, photos, or other images such as taken from a book or painting would be copyright infringement. The author/owner of the text or image would have to give written permission to anyone wanting to use something that they created, and even then the copyright ownership remains with the original author and credit must be given. Your husband not only needs to give credit to the author of the care sheet, but to be able to even use it on your site, you must ask permission from the person who owns it. A link to the caresheet stating clearly whos information it is, though, should eliminate the need to ask permission. Not sure about that part, but better to be safe and ask.

btw..I'm new here. Just had to sign up to respond to this post. Now I'll go and check out your new site.

If you give proper credit I don't think you have to ask for permission to *link* to another site. That is basically what the Internet is about - linking to different sites. BUT - giving proper credit is essential.

If you want to use somebody else's picture or text at your homepage - THEN you HAVE to ask for permission and also give credit.

Yeah, thats the part I wasnt sure about. I think as long as it is clear that the links are to another site, rather than to an info sheet on your own site (that could be mistaken as your own), permission wouldnt be needed.

Just checked out falias' site... such beautiful babies! Being so new to dragons, I'm only just finding out there are so many gorgeous colours.

You cna link to whatever you want to link to without permission. If you copied their care sheet to your website, then you would need permission, and to give them credit. Actually, you are helping them when you link to them, because the more links to their website, the higher they will rank on search engines.

Dachius caresheet wan NOT actually copied to my site...even he knows that is wrong..we also were NOT using anybody elses text or pictures on the site. We just had a link that was named "Care Sheet" I thought it needed to say "Dachiu's Care Sheet". It linked to thier site, nothing of theirs was on my sitre, I just thought it needed to be named better. I think that everyone agreed that was a good idea...

But don't worry, we were not copying it onto our site.

And whoever said I have pretty dragons. THANKS! I think so too! =)
