My little rankins dragon will only eat peas when it comes to veggies. I've tried pretty much every other recommended veggie but he only likes peas. Is it okay for him to have them every day or every other day?

Peas aren't a very good choice. They always seem to love things that aren't so good for them.

Here's a good resource.

My suggestion is that he should eat mostly greens. Mustard greens and Dandelion are usually pretty popular. Sometimes a salad of Mustard Greens and Romaine is good to get them started on eating salad. Romaine isn't great but it's better than peas and they seem to like it. Once they are eating I slowly start replacing the Romaine part with other better greens.

Thanks. I'll give that a try.

How old is your Rankins? If they are very young, most dragons are more interested in insect prey than greens in general. I suggest removing peas completely and just have salads as BDLvr suggests.

He's about 1 1/2. He didn't eat any salad last year (I got him in March of '07) and when he "woke up" this spring he gobbled up his salad everyday for a few weeks. Then he stopped. I've only given him peas a few times and he's eaten them every time. He loves his crickets and eats many everyday. I've been putting vitamins on his crickets as well as calcium to make up for the lack of greens. He seems happy and healthy so I'll just keep offering him greens until he decides to eat them again. No more peas. Does that sound like a good plan?

Have you tried green beans, snow peas, sugar snap peas. Those are great to add a little protein and make good staples. The way I prepare it is I rinse it well and then put in a food processor and let it chop them up into bite size pieces. From my experience they love them. You try mixing it with the greens and see if he'll eat them.

I'll give that a try. I love sugar snap peas so if he doesn't like them, they won't go to waste : )
