OT - What I brought home from Daytona

waspinator421 Aug 29, 2008 04:40 PM

I brought home several animals from this awesome show. I'm suprised I was able to pass up some of the animals that were there, as there were some pretty cool ones! I was so close to getting a nice orange Thayeri from Randy Whittington (sp?), it had a few aberrant bands.

First up is a 1.2 trio of Aberrant Nelson's Milksnakes that I picked up from Ward's World of Reptiles. One thing that I find really interesting is the eyes on these animals. They have dark eyes, but the pupils are red. You can see it on some of these pictures. Anybody know how this happens?

Here is the male:

This female is still in shed, so I didn't bother with a 'fancy' photoshoot.

Here is the other female I got in this trio. I just love the vanishing pattern on her back third.

I also picked up a 1.1 pair of Bismarck Ringed Pythons from Tom Keogan. I've been waiting for these to hatch for over a year. It was great to finally be able to pick them up!

Here is the male, a nice aberrant:

And this is the female:

I also picked up this female light orange Halloween Pueblan Milksnake from BHB Reptiles.

And lastly, is a Pearl Brazilian Rainbow Boa from Tom Davis. I can't believe I found this here! Woohoo!!

I am very happy with these new babies!

Hey Aubrey -- you have a sharp eye for beautiful snakes -- those aberrant nelsoni are other-worldly (those eyes are beyond cool). It looks to me that there is plenty of melanin in the irises, but that the dark pigment that's normally in the inside lining of the eye is missing. The male's nose is so white it looks like leucism, not amelanism.

It would be great to hear what the experts think. Whatever is going on in those animals, it's way cool.

The other animals are striking, too. The ringed python is particularly striking.

Thanks for sharing, and congratulations.

Someday I'll get down to Daytona (once we're done with college tuition payments!

Thanks for the compliments, Tom! Yeah, the abby Nelson's are bizarre with the eyes and the piebalding. Most of the abby Nelson's that I have seen seem to have piebalding on the nose and tail. Not sure why.
