poop question

trex8692 Aug 29, 2008 04:41 PM

my leo baby poops everyday but i have a question about it.

Its supposed to be a pretty solid mass and shaped like a mini sausage right? Well mine is. But attached to every one of the poops are small white tips. They look kidna like chalk

Ive read those white things are called URATES? But im confused if they are normal or not.

Also surrouding the poop is sometimes a splotch of brown coloring, im guessing from the moisture in the defecation but i thought it was supposed to be overall pretty dry.

p.s. he/she is eating normally if this helps

Is help needed?

Think "pee"... the solid white mass is basically that, they are after all rocket desert dwellers and liquid waste would be, well, a waste.

A little bit of seepage is normal, the poo comes out of the leo is moist, but dries quickly. I find it is much more noticeable in younger leos too, but then it could just be because we are always watching for other signs and they go so much more often.

To be honest, sounds perfectly healthy to me. Feel free to ask, much better to flood with questions than have something be actually wrong!

Take care! And happy herping!

well this is kinda off topic but if you could kindly answer

my gecko was bought from lllreptile.com where it was marketed as a leucistic baby.

when i read more morph infos online i found out that leucistic might be a junior synonym for blizzard, then i got curious again and looked at the lllreptile store once more:

to my surprise they were also selling animals labeled as blizzard leopard geckos (and blazing)

now im confused are leucistics the same as blizzards?

if so/not could you give me a little history as to why this confusion seems to be taking place?

The best I can say is that "Blizzard" is a trade name, not really a classic genetics description. I've been lost on trade names for a while now, since they started looking like random letters all typed by a leo on a keyboard!

The problem with leos is the names and trade names haven't always been clear... What we call "albinos" like trempers or bells don't really fit the "true" definition of albino. (Or else they've have red eyes, which some do now, but not by the same mechanism.) The same is true for leucistic, a leucistic snake is easy - it's all true white. Blizzards go from pale yellow to white-ish- to black-ish. I don't follow blizzards, so I would suggest a new thread so I don't confuse you more. Just admitting my short comings.

As for generally accepted and universal trade names of morphs I always use this site, but it doesn't answer your question, but might help in the future:
