New Corn Snake Guy Here

guyergenetics Aug 29, 2008 06:50 PM

Hello, I'm new to this site but I've been breeding corns for a few years now. I'm looking forward getting to know everyone and learning new things and hopefully contributing to this forum.

This is an example of what we're working with and breeding:

Butter motley

We were also fortunate enough to hatch out a few lavender motley babies. We bred het to het for this clutch so it was a crap shoot.

I have been on K.com for several years but am new to corns. Welcome and nice snakes. I really like the lavendar motley!

Thank you. There's a lot more that we hatched this year but I can't seem to post any more than one pic per post.

These are the result of breeding a male butter motley to a female bloodred, basically they are outcrossed bloodreds and the first step of a two generation process to make fire and sulfur corns.

You have some great looking projects going. I have a butter stripe project going and I really like bloods, especially amel blood and pewter, so was thinking about getting some stock to head that way, but excuse my ignorance but could you tell me more about the fire and sulfer, what they are, ect? I use the shift to highlight extra photos but for some reason I usually can only fit 3 per post, may have something to do with file size and the fact that I use kingsnakes photo storage? Not sure how others post 4 photos, maybe someone could shed some helpful light on that subject.
Thanks and welcome again

All the short names get confusing as to whats really what. Both fire and sulfur are in my copy of Charles Pritzel's 2007 Edition Cornsnake Morph Guide, but I guess I forgot. (of course I asked before looking it up...sorry) My wife says I do that a lot: asking where something is before looking She usually just ignores me for about 5 minutes giving me time to find whatever, that way she doesn't even have to answer me. lol

The short names can become very confusing. No problem in asking any questions...that's what forums are for.

guyergenetics Aug 31, 2008 06:36 PM

I'm working pretty hard on the bloodred morph projects. I have been breeding my female bloodred to a different male every year creating outcrosses.

2 years ago I bred her to a normal male, I'm sure he's het for something but I don't know what. The goal here is to hatch bloodreds in the 2nd generation.

last year I bred her to a snow het hypo in hopes of producing avalanches, fires, peppers, and possible hypo bloodreds in the 2nd generation.

This year I bred her to my male butter mot in an attempt to produce fires and sulphurs. Also what will happen when diffusion meets motley on the same snake?

Next year the plan is to breed her to my male normal striped motley.

boxienuts Aug 31, 2008 11:22 PM

interesting, so nobody has produced motley bloods, or striped bloods? if not that would be cool to see what happens. I was wanting to add amel bloods to my collection, just because I really like the looks, and then cross with triple het or motley anery, then look to 2nd gen for some cool stuff. good luck with your projects.

some people have produced motley bloods and are currently producing striped bloods, but personally i think its pointless b/c if you have a real NICE bloodred the saddles wether motley, striped or normal are almost invisible.... but thats why i dont breed them
