Incubation of Carpet eggs

loon Sep 05, 2003 02:27 AM

Hi, I've many carpet eggs but I've incubated them with incorrect temp. (~30degreeC) for almost 5 months. They seems still good and without molding. Is it still possible for them to hatch? Besides, what should I do now? Should I low the incubating temp. to normal (~24degreeC) or just leave them at the current temp.?

Many thanks.

Hi Loon,

First lesson with chameleon reproduction... never toss out what looks like a good egg!

Depending upon the medium used to incubate the eggs in and the temperatures... it could take up to 9 months before they hatch. We always incubate in a mix of perlite and vermiculite (barely moist) and keep the temps between 68-74F.

Some folks use various methods - and several can be found around the internet sites... check AdCham for one:

Good luck with them...

Hi,
Thanks for your information. Some eggs've doubled their size, but some only increases a little. However, all of them don't have any blood vessel. Anyway, I'll keep trying to incubate the eggs.

Loon,

Don't give up.... the ones that have doubled - well, that is a good sign they are viable. But we have seen small eggs in a clutch hatch too.

Remember.... in nature, all eggs are not designed to hatch and produce healthy offspring. Some are destined to be "lost"... But until then.... keep hoping!
