we just switched to the heavy ceramic dishes(tan sides and blue inside) and we are very happy with them. ALOT less tips and we also use the ARS racks and they have the water bowls molded right into the tubs and you just drop a deli cup in and your done.

I use the pvc plumbing couplers and the 16 oz water cups. Fewer tips for me.

I also use the ARS molded deli cups and love that feature.

I used to use crock type water bowls and they didn't tip. However they were a PITA to keep clean. Changing to disposable deli-cups for watering was absolutely the single most time saving thing I have done. I special ordered some schedule 80 PVC electrical conduit (Just like PVC Pipe only with a wall that is twice as thick and different inside diameter) with an inside diameter that is perfect for 16 ounce deli-cups (a few years ago BHB turned me on to this information and it is one of the most valuable tips I have ever gotten). I then cut the conduit/pipe into lengths that are tall enough so they come to approximately 1 -1.5 inches from the top of my racks. When they are cut this tall, it is impossible to tip them over while the rack is closed. I buy Fabri-Cal deli cups 5000 at a time and pay about 5 cents apiece. For me $15 to easily change out 300 water bowls is NO CONTEST compared to having to scrub and clean crocks reusable bowls. It literally takes me a small fraction of the time with the disposable cups compared to the reusable. Hope this helps someone as much as it did me. THANK YOU BRIAN!!!

Thanks for the info Grant. What diameter schedule 80 are you using?

I use 16 oz deli cups inside a 4" pvc coupling. Works great with no tipping ever.

I use 4" pvc pipe couplers and get deli cups from ARS Caging. The cups are $40 for 500 or something like that, and HD has the couplings for a couple bucks. You will spend about $7-$8 each on ceramic water bowls, and the pvc don't break if you drop it.
