Is it normal....

For a male boa which is usually extremely tame to go completely psycho this time of year? No other male boas around hes just extremely pissy as of late. Tail wiggles and he strikes like mad.

This is a male that I was able to take out by hand all the time in shed or not without even him coiling back to strike once.

The wiggling tail is a sign of hunger. Involuntary feeding behavior. Is it possible he has mites? That puts them in a bad mood most times. Is he Central American? They tend to go off at times. When mine do, I just ignore the behavior and hold them close until they settle down, much like you would a crying baby. It's usually more bluff. They don't really want to bite you if they can avoid it.

parents were a kahl albino het anery and a ghost. very little CA in him. No mites at all. Ive fed him a med rat once a week for the past 6 months trying to get him more size for the breeding season he was 3.5 ft last year this year he added a foot.

I was just wondering if it could have anything to do with the change in seasons lately. Im in the STL area.

The tail thing is just a sign of it being excited. I have aggressive Boas that do it everytime they see me, whether they are being fed or not. As for being aggressive, I had a Boa try to take my nose off a few weeks ago that I always considered workable. Had to pluck out teeth caught in my nose once the bleeding subsided. Fun stuff. Usually Females go nuts and want to eat everything a few weeks before they start building follicles, but males usually don't.

It's your adult females' scent that's driving him nuts. The tail thing is just excitement.
