BURLINGTON FREE PRESS (Vermont) 25 August 08 Turtle rooted from golf course pipe
Williston: A snapping turtle who found herself in a tight spot was rescued by a reptile lover and a South Burlington plumbing company.
JoAnn Nichols of the reptile rescue operation Ivana Iguana in Burlington was alerted last month to a turtle who was stuck in an overflow pipe at Willston Golf Course.
After trying unsuccessfully to extract the turtle, Nichols called Rich Marchuk, owner of the South Burlington Roto-Rooter, who agreed to help.
Rich Marchuk, Halsey Dunton, Jr., and another technician responded, within minutesdonating their tools and time. After a veterinarian sedated the animal, Marchuk was able to pull her out by the tail.
The turtle was examined and later returned to the wild.
Nichols also credited Dr. Lynne Martin of Country Animal Hospital in Bethel and Dr. John Eustis of Orchard Veterinary Clinic in Shelburne for their medical expertise
