2 headed eastern kingsnake

darkstar817 Aug 31, 2008 09:06 PM

me being a kingsnake freak , and having a pair of esterns, floridas, alb, floridas, flame floridas and snow floridas i happend to get lucky this year with a two headed eastern hatchling. they stareted piping over the weekend and this one came out today ....i wish it was an alb florida or sumthin but hey beggars cant be choosers right.
the adults are from VA and NC locality ,second time they bred for me but obviously a first for a two headed out of this pair. any genetic thoughts on why this happend? incubation? different bloodlines and localitys?
i hope the snake will make it and do fine , it seems to have no other defects . lets hope feeding time goes ok .
how will this work with two functioning brains sending hunger signals ?
should i alternate food to a different head each feeding?
better pics to come

wow! cool!
as far as i have seen if a 2 headed snake is ok after the first few feedings it will live a somewhat normal life, that said, this is what ive seen on tv, no real life here!
as far as why, id think it was a developmental thing, in mom or the egg i cant say, but i would doubt it had anything to do with the genes, but i could be off, im not a vet or a genetisitys (cant even spell that) but it would be interesting to see if you get another from the same pairing, may shed some new light on it, id love to hear updates!!!
good luck!!

this is a form of twinning. i've produced 6 in the last 25 years. only one however survived. if you'd like to call i can fill you in on the details. jim314-631-7272
