College research into alterna

jamesalternafan Sep 01, 2008 02:46 AM

I am doing my senior research project about the success of breeding alterna (or other kingsnake species depending on the data I get) in captivity.

Does anyone have any data that I can use in my research? Any data is appreciated (feeding schedule and of what, hatch rates, substrates, sizes, brumation times, ages, supplementation of any kind, temps, anything you have the more specific the better).

I am hoping to model the fertility of eggs based on as many factors as I can but one of the main problems lays in testing the mathematical model with specific data.

If anyone has anything, or might be able to help or share their opinion about what factors affect hatch rates please let me know so it can be included.

Thanks to anyone in advance for any help they can provide me.

James Sfregola

P.S. Really anything you have can help my research so let me know.

if you would like to look into the archives of this forum, and even just the things from this last breeding season you will find the awsners to most of your questions. This year there where a couple of break throughs that took hold, and where accepted by the general public.

I have been following the forum for over a two years gathering info. What I am looking for is very specific data; exact numbers of days, weights of meals, etc things that most will not have.

I am hoping that someone else keeps extremely good records like me. Weights of each feeder mouse, supplemental feeding of lizards or the use of vitamins, shed dates/lengths, exact brumation times/temps, exact incubation times/temps, incubation substrate, etc.

I need exact data to verify the effectiveness of my mathematical model. Looking back at the forum does not provide me with any new information, mostly just theories about what works. My goal is to test the theories to see if in fact these theories about what works well are the actual cause and not just coincidence or luck.

It might be interesting for people on this forum to see my results if I can get more data to proceed in this direction.

I really need data from those who fed lizards as opposed to mice, or frozen opposed to live. Also any use of vitamin supplements. I think that diet will ultimately play the biggest role, but I am not looking over other factors.

Please let me know if you think you can help.

Thanks
