male fasting question

KaylaBaxter Sep 01, 2008 12:58 PM

I have an adult male that's recently started to refuse meals. I'm wondering if it's normal for males to go off feed when the breeding season starts? His cage is above two adult females, and he's constantly prowling, looking for a way out of his cage. I had an issue with my thermostat a few weeks back, and because of that my temps dropped a few degrees, but it only lasted about two weeks, they're back to normal now. Is he just looking to breed? I want to get two more meals in the females, then give them two weeks to empty themsevles out before introducing the males. This is my first breeding attempt, so everything's new to me.

Thanks,
Kayla

Sounds normal to me.
Especially if above 2 mature females.

I have read of cases where the males go off feed so long they starve to death in extreme cases.

I would keep trying and get him in there as soon as possible so he can get his job done

It's normal for some males. You inspired him more by cooling him. You really can't put any more weight on those girls in a month, since they're ready you might as well cut the number of hours of light now if you control that (as opposed to a window), and put them together pretty quick. That's what I'd do.
