Anyone ever had this happen?

gypsy1dragon Sep 01, 2008 01:59 PM

My ghost corn laid 3 eggs the Friday of the Daytona Show, 1 week and 3 days ago. She obviously still has 3 more eggs inside her. The consensus was to give her a few days, she is not in any obvious distress.

3 days ago I called a local vet about possibly aspirating the eggs, he said to give if a few more days. I asked if I should try to feed her and he said yes if she would eat.

I offered her a very small rat pink, she usually eats rat hoppers, which she ate immediately then had a full shed before i took her out of her feeding box. That was 3 days ago. She hasn't gone back in the nesting box and is just cruising her cage like she normally does.

There is no doubt there are 3 easly felt eggs very close to her vent. I did try gently palpating several times during this, but nothing.

I think it is time to have them aspirated, but still trying to find a good reptile vet in the area. My local breeder can probably do it, and I would probably trust him more than an unknown vet.

Opinions are definitely welcome.

egg binding can be caused by multiple things.... too young of a snake, too warm/cool temps, many many different reasons... sorry it happened, but it does happen...

Thank you for your reply. I understand eggbinding is not uncommon. I found her cycle unusual. Laid 3 eggs, 1 week later she ate and shed within 20 minutes of eating. Been checking her every day, she never appears in the blue like she usually does.

Mother nature never fails to confuse.
