Since I've Been out of the Loop...

jlassiter Sep 01, 2008 04:21 PM

It's been three long years since I've kept snakes and some of the names are new to me here on the forum.
I just wanted to know what everyone here is working with, including non-mexicana complex animals...

I plan on working with the following:

Thayeri (Have 4.3 on the way soon)
Mex Mex (Black phase, Split banded, Granite and Classic) Have none
Ruthveni (Classic, Striped and Amels) Have none
Alterna (Not sure what locale just yet...I used to work with RRs)
Holbrooki (Have 2.2 PH for Whitewall & 1.1 DH for Whitewall & Amel)I would like to add some Lavender albinos in the mix as well as the checkered trait.
Splendida (Hypo, Axanthic and Amel) Have none
MBKs Have none.

I do have a WC Pacific Coast Gopher snake that I found in Benicia, CA back in early 2007.

Just curious who everyone is and what everyone is working with.
I have lurked here over the past three years, but have certainly not been a part of the forum like I used to in years past...

I also breed cal-kings and leopard geckos....
I hope to breed ball pythons next year for the first time... and i have a few odds and ends i breed too.... including parakeets... but it would be cool to see what else everyone breeds other than thayeri

>>

You've just seen me around here pretty recently....I remember when there was no Mexicana forum and Us Mexheads had to post with those black and white snake owners....LOL

I also remember when Jeff Barringer started these 'sub forums'. I was certainly a regular here (was accused of being a moderator many times), but I have been 'out of the loop' for at least 3 years.

I like seeing new posters here...I do miss some of the ones that were here years back, but I guess they've moved on or out of the hobby.

Anyway...thank you for posting... I really like to see what everyone is working with.

You know....You will never meet a snake owner that has just one snake....these things are addicting, especially thayeri.

Had to wait for all to shed, and just got back in town Sat, leaving for another week Mon. I will try and post them tonight. I am totally blown away with these guys now, and I just caught a clutch of Calhoun county speckled king eggs that were lain while I was out, maybe her second clutch. Weird but wonderful!

Thanks for posting Kevin.....
it looks like you got the thayeri addiction for sure....this is step one of the 12 to follow.....LOL

Ask Michelle how addicting they are...i think she has more thayeri than I ever had and I had around 15 breeding pairs at my peak (around 2002 or 2003)....Not to mention 50 or so hatchlings and/or sub adults......LOL

I think I can control that this time around....HA!

>>Well, I'm just getting back into snakes again myself after 3 years off.

Good to see you're coming back into the hobby as well.

You got some great choices on your order list. Jason Nelson at Envy has some of the best Pits around.
I really like Deppei.....
Are you getting Deppei Deppei or Deppei Jani? and who from? Vivid?
Those are my favorite pits....

Anyway....At least I was rambling about a Mexican snake on the Mexicana forum......Hehe

Here's a nice Mexmex to stay on forum topic....

Ouch, my eyes hurt. That is a great mex mex.
I'm ordering deppei from vivid.
I'm on reservation lists this year with Tim Gebhard, John Cherry,
Don Soderberg, Bob Applegate, and Tom Stevens.

All great choices in breeders....I know Don and Tom personally and they have some great snakes.

These are what I have brewing lately...

Thayeri (way to many to count)
Mex mex (obsession growing steadily)
Alterna (just as "pets" right now)
Knoblochi (have some really nice lateral speckled animals now)
Pyros (a couple normals that will go next year and some fantastic Baubel Santa Ritas in line)
California Kings (mostly extreme reduced-patterned Osborne-derived Mojave/Joshua tree lineage)
Western Hoggies
Kenyan Sand Boas
Pueblan milks

A trio of normal Ball python adults
Some adult Dumeril's Boas that have been together for some months now
A pair of gorgeous Tim Gebhard-line Mandarin ratsnakes

Also, some other odds and ends...a pair of Indian Star tortoises and Elongated tortoises that will hopefully breed soon.

Welcome back John. I was away from the forum for about a year, and I'm just getting back here myself. Right now I have bunches of Thayeri ( Vivid, Russ Bates, Lee Abbott, Dan V, John Cherry (Lemke, and Laredo lines), Michelle Rogers, Mitch Allen, Bob Hanson, and Mike K.
-Mex blacks
-Corns
-Hondos
-Cal kings
-Balls
I had a lot more than that, but recently thinned out the herd. My Thayeri seem to be slowly squeezing the others out. lol.

I remember you from when I first began coming to this forum back in late '05 and early '06. I largely quit coming to KS forums for a long time. I was disgusted with some political things that happened over the the ball python area, and I just didn't want anything to do with any of it. I post over here about three or four times a year. I haven't been to the other KS forums since about that time.

I'm pretty inconsequential in the hobby, but because you asked, I'll answer.

I have a pair of thayeri that I bought from Chris Garcia. The first is Rocket, and some of you may remember him. Here's his most recent photo.

The second is a year younger, but she's growing faster than Rocket did. I call her Ellie.

When they get big enough, I'll breed them. I don't plan to be a big time breeder, but I'd like to try a little bit. Both of them are great snakes, and I'd like to propagate them.

Beyond these two, I have an adult male CalKing, three ball pythons, and a crested gecko. To be honest, I don't plan to expand much beyond what I have. I'd rather have a smaller number of animals and give them more attention than to have a big breeding collection. I like trying to take the time to observe my animals individually. While I appreciate the "living art" that the dedicated breeders produce, I see myself pursuing the hobby in a different way.

I'd like to have one or two more ball pythons, and maybe those additions will fill my collection. At times, I've thought about finding a female CalKing, but my male seems content enough not to breed. There are plenty of CalKings out there. If I found a female thayeri that was just perfect and represented a "look" that I wanted to include in my collection, I might be tempted to get her.

Bill
