Brooks Breeding

JMo Sep 01, 2008 06:39 PM

I'm new to the forum and need some advice, direction, expert opinion, etc. I have a 2.5 yr old male brooks (normal) with nice yellow coloring. I want to get a young female and try my hand at breeding them when the time comes.

What type female should I be looking at in hopes of getting some nice hatchlings - axantic, albino, hypo or just another normal? What type hatchlings could I expect?

Any information, advice, etc. will be most appreciated.

do you know if your male is heterozygous (gene carrier) for any recessive traits? if you know he is, then try to get a mate the carries the same trait to produce some offspring of that trait.
other wise, if you breed him to an albino female(or other recessive trait) the offspring will look normal but will be heterozygous carriers of the mother's recessive genes. The next generation of offspring from these hatchlings (bred back to their mother or to siblings) will produce some offspring that will look like the mother.
hope that helps.
