That is a desert collared, a c. bicintores, as opposed to the Eastern, c. collaris. It is different than the Easterns as it has a laterally compressed tail and will develop a lot of black along its belly, throat, and underside of its thighs. They are beautiful lizards in their own right.

BTW, do you know how to set him up and take proper care of him? You know they need really specific temps and UVB, right? Here is a great care sheet that I used when I got my first collared.

He's a nice buck. What county is he from, LA or San Bernandino? Are you keeping him in that outdoor enclosure?

jimfmcdonald Sep 02, 2008 07:05 PM

I plan to keep him in this outside inclosure and i did add a top lip around it and more metal in the corners as well so they can not climb out. but i will read up on them as well. thanks.

Do you plan to put some kind of top on it? They can really jump and are prey for birds and oppossums, etc. That is a great enclosure, but could use a screen or mesh top.

Wow. He's a beauty! Do you plan to keep him? If so, you should stick around here and read all the previous posts. This is definitely the place to learn about collared lizards and their care. Good luck!
