Lick, Lick... CHOMP!

blazeyoungblood Sep 05, 2003 08:14 AM

I recently adopted a blue tongued skink from a local reptile rescue. I've had him for almost two weeks, and try to handle him at least once a day. He eats well and is very friendly. Yesterday, I had him in my hand, not paying attention, and he started licking my wrist followed by a big ol chomp. It left a good bruise mark of lined teeth, looks like someone pressed a bottle cap against my arm. Was this aggression, or did he maybe just taste something that he thought was food? He wasn't hissing or anything, and was extremely calm, I am just kind of baffled as to why he bit me, and so hard.

not agression. In his mind he just thought it was something he could eat. In he defense, your wrist is (hopefully) warm flesh that seemed good enough to him. He will learn in time. Had it been agression, you would be bleeding. Alot. I have had the same thing happen to me on a couple of occasions. It can really take you bu surprise. The title to your post is a perfect description. It says it all. Lick, Lick "tastes good to me" CHOMP! whoud pretty much sum it up.

Thanks for the info, I must just have a good aroma to me. This week alone, I've gotten bit by my tegu, leopard gecko, and now my skink. Anyway, I've been bitten by a tokay, so nothing has topped that yet. I hold no grudges, I still love my babies.
