my new C. Horridus

abeercan01 Sep 02, 2008 05:55 PM

this is my new C. Horridus. Sorry the pic quality is so crappy the cameras on the iphones suck! As soon as i can get another cord for my digital camera ill get some better pictures if him.
When i first got him he would rattle almost non stop. Now its been a few days and hes gotten a little more used to me and he hasnt rattled anymore. The glass tank is just a temporary enclosure until i get all my new cages done. I havent had alot of free time lately. All i do anymore is work, work, work! But anyways thanks for looking and let me know what yall think.

Did your female copperhead die? The one that had the babies?

Abeercan01 Sep 02, 2008 07:32 PM

Yes my female did die while giving birth. Also none of the babies were fully developed. I just hope it was nothing I did that contributed to it. I would just feel absolutley horrible. My buddy that brought me the timber, also brought me four newborn baby copperheads. They will be shedding for the first time within the next few days as their eyes have cleared up, so as soon as they do shed I'll get some pics of them posted.

That timber looks pretty thin - although overfeeding and obesity are always to be strictly thwarted when it comes to rattlers, you also don't want them to look emaciated. It could just be a bad view though.

I'll get a better pic of him so you can better tell if he does look too thin to you. Having a timber will be a totally new thing to me so I'm completley open for any advice. I was told that he was fed a good sized meal about every two weeks. It defecated in the container he brought him in and again 2days after I had him. I'm gonna offer him some food within the next day or two.

Congrats on the Timber!

I've found them to be very inquisitive and seemingly loaded with personality. Quite a joy to keep and observe and easy to switch to F/T. Wish I could keep one where I live now.

Have a good one!

Thanks!
I've messed with timbers alot in the past but never owned one myself. So now I'm able to watch him alot.
In the short time Ive had him, I have noticed he has a totally different personality than my copperheads. The coppers spend most of the time in their hides, and he spends about 50 percent of the time in his hide.
I think it's pretty cool how he kinda flattens himself out while he's under the lamp. I really enjoy watching him cause he seems curious all the time. I'm thinking of getting a little larger yellow phase timber, But before I do I need to get my other cages built first. I'm taking a weeks vacation next week so I can finally get them done.
Those are some great pics by the way.
