safe substrate? weird noises..?

Shadow4108 Sep 02, 2008 09:15 PM

Are there any safe wood substrates? I use paper towels or plain paper now, but I was looking for something a little more eye apealing. Also, I have been hearing strange noises lately. kind of like sqeaks.. could these be her. Also, do they get more vocal as they get older. She is about 1 1/2 years old. Is she ready to mate maybe why she is making noises. IS this normal?

PS; on a funny note, looking at my pic preview.. it looks like she is posing for a reptile playboy centerfold..LOLOL

I believe leopard geckos can vocalize from time to time, it's just not common (I don't think, don't quote me on that). I seem to remember quite a while back someone here posted up a link to a soundfile of their leopard gecko making a squeaky/screechy noise.

It is not uncommon for babies to "rattle" when a hand approaches them. This is sometimes followed up with a little nip on the finger. I have also heard some of my adults give a "chirp/squeek" when startled (another gecko climbs on them while they are sleeping).
