No appetite before shedding?

Rob328gts Sep 03, 2008 09:55 AM

I know basic question for most, but just learning about my snake. He had been eating once a week and then he went 2 weeks where he wouldn't eat and staying out of sight. I started getting more concerned and then he shedded yesterday and was cruising the cage actively, then readily ate last night.

Is this typical pre-shedding behavior?

That is exactly what happends in most cases.. Some Animals will not take at all when shedding and some will eat clear through the shedding process..

Good Luck!

Yes,..it's just like Mike said,...some snake's will stop feeding completely during the shedding process, and refuse all offerings, while other's will eat voraciously even while in "full blue". I't just an individual preference, and both behaviors are very typical of ANY type of snake, including kingsnakes.

I don't think I need to repeat anything in the above threads. Those guys are the experts. The only thing I will add is this: if you are unsure as to whether your snake is getting ready to shed, look at its belly scales. If they appear "milky" or lack crisp, clear color, the snake is getting ready to shed. Mine usually sheds within a week after her belly starts to "turn blue".
