Nice looking pile of babies and mom looks like she's a bit deflated - as she should!!!

By sacs, do you mean the off white yolks? If so how is the consistency? very liquid or kinda solid? Liquid is good and more solid is not so good.

One of my recent litters had one baby wih a yolk thta was fairly solid. After a day I pinched it off the large part which allowed the narrow part to slip into the umbillical slit over the next couple of days.

Congrats and welcome to the forum, have not seen you around before, stay and hang out with us, you'll find this to be one of the best forums around, none of the nasty crud you see on so many forums.

BEFORE taking any action on the yolks, please post better pics of just them!!! Thought about it after I posted that my post could be misunderstood as recommending pinching off now.

Thanks for the nice welcome & taking the time to share your experience "rainbowsrus". Yes, there are alot of people that like to "flame" on forums. So I am thankful for your welcome.

As it goes with the 3 that still had egg sacs connected to them, there was only 1 worth saving. I seperated that one from the rest & it looks to be doing good this morning. The other 2 had bad bone deformities with major kinks. So, they are no longer with us.
I will keep you posted on their progress. I am going to hold some back this time.

Yes thank you all, I do appriciate the positive responses.
Sincerely, Jerry

We of the rainbow forum pride ourselves in making this a "happy place", flaming is frowned upon here We openly welcome one and all, off-topic posts are welcome as well. One of our regular "stars" is Jack, an Indigo owned and photographed by Ed.

Sorry to hear about the little ones with defects. It happens, not one of the high points of breeding but a reality anyone who breeds is likely to have to deal with sooner or later. With two in one litter, I'd be concerned with one of two things...

1) Genetics - how unrelated (or related) are the parents. Understood there are no pedigrees and even if we think they are unrelated, they could be cousins.

2) Husbandry - specifically temps. What temps was she gestating at?

Of course it could be just one of those things. Also, have you checked the rest out closely looking for less noticeable minor defects?

I know the tragities that happen with breeding. However, I hope no one gets upset, I do not let the defect snakes go to waste. My Indigo snakes love the ones that do not make it.

Some snakes enjoy eating other snakes. Here is a piture I took of a kingsnake getting ready to eat a roadkilled rattlesnake one night when out looking for snakes.

Thanks,Jerry

ReneeValois Sep 05, 2008 09:44 AM

Although if that kingsnake doesn't get off the road pretty quickly, he could end up as roadkill too!

okay so out of curiosity you own multiple indigo snakes correct? also that one in the pic is a wild but do you own any kings?

now lets say if they where available, would you be at all interested in buying say garter snakes (or something) as feeders?
so live or frozen snakes to offer your indigos as prey what do you think?

WHAT!?! You heathenous, evil person! How can you even think of feeding snakes to another animal when you can use those lower lifeforms (ie, rodents) that are risk-free and completely nutritionally balanced. Repent, you sinnner!

I do not know what version of a Bible you read, But mine says that the only thing that keeps you out of heaven is not believing in Jesus. For it is by Grace we are saved, not by works so no one can boast. That is one book I know ; D
I do not take what you say as valid, because the WORD also says there is NO condenmation for those in Christ Jesus.

Sincerely, Jerry

I guess you are getting off topic here. I do not ussually mention the WORD here, but I will defend myself with the TRUTH.

rainbowsrus Sep 06, 2008 12:23 PM

You must have missed the whole convo about raising feeder garter snakes as supplements for indigo's. The boys were simply mocking the reactions they got from the garter snake forum. That forum sure did get their panties in a bunch about the whole thing.

And yeah, your response was perfectly fine not knowing the background behind the replies. Or the "tongue in cheek" tone this forum tends to have, I'll take at least partial blame (credit?) for that!!!

Satire, Jerry, satire...

Stephen asked about raising garter snakes on the garter snake forum and got attacked for mentioning that he might use them as feeder snakes, as if he were the devil.

And I've blabbed on quite a bit about how I'd like to feed snakes to my Indigo if I could obtain some.

I was just joking around.

Thanks,
Ed

LOL nice, okay beside totally missing the "mocking" tone in Eds typing that was understandably NOT your fault.... that is actually a great response lol i like it way to go! but to spare the forum a religious discussion we should leave it at that.

and yeah Ed was mainly running with an inside joke you could say. dont even get us all started with PETA lol. it all in good fun just how this forum is, and yes we can partially blame (give credit) to Dave for that one

I thought I might of missed something, I reread the post several times & just see how I was a "sinner" for what I feed my snakes...ROTFL! thanks for the explaination. Does this mean I was "punked"? lol!

Hey Jerry,

My post was in no way directed at you at all. Maybe that wasn't clear; if so, I apologize for that.

Thanks,
Ed

Jerry Sep 06, 2008 11:52 AM

okay so out of curiosity you own multiple indigo snakes correct?
Yes, I own a pair of Indigo snakes, I ussually feed them mice, frozen or prekilled

also that one in the pic is a wild but do you own any kings?
Yes I do have kings, Desert, California, Arizona & California Mountain Kings. I have fed them cb rattlesnakes that "stargaze" or born dead.

now lets say if they where available, would you be at all interested in buying say garter snakes (or something) as feeders?

NO. If I cannot primarially feed them rodents, I do not keep them. Besides Garters are cool!

My coachwhip started on reptiles, but now eats rodents only.

so live or frozen snakes to offer your indigos as prey what do you think?
I have done both. Just depends on if it is hungry @ the time. If not, I freeze them & feed it later. I had over 40 rattlesnakes born so far this year @ my house. Some stillborn & others just died. No use letting them go to waste

Hope that answers your questions,
Jerry

yeah for the most past i was just wondering with the fact you have indigos, kings, choachwhip, if you would be interested in "feeder snakes" as an alternate diet or just to ad into the diet. but if not then no big deal...

you have some really nice pictures there btw
