What do you recommend, I know that there are a few highly recommended cage brands out there, rhino raxx, vision racks, and freedom breeder (extreamlly high cost), but is it easier to build your own?

Animal Plastics!!!!! the BEST customer service-- super sturdy and clean slick looking-- these racks actually fit into my decor in my living areas of the house-- I love them-- I also have their boa cages...
They have great prices too- one of the cheaper 'high end' racks...
we have a few cages we built ourselves.... to build the same exact thing that AP or any others offer- is much more expensive... we have used the melamine shelves b/c of water resistance and it works great but unless you really do have all the tools- it will take some time... my hubby is a job foreman so we definatly have all the tools we need but it still took some work and figuring on the first ones....
our first rack is 6 inches to deep... works just fine but theres like a small useless shelf infront of every tub.... lol
good luck-- but if you have the $ just buy AP...

Are you refering to extruding the same plastic materials, to build the "same exact thing". in that case I would agree.
I build all my racks and enclosures, and the end result is a fraction of the cost of any rack you can purchase.
all of the rack systems mentioned(that I have seen) are very nice, but I can't see paying that much for a rack unless you don't have the ability to build your own. Then you have no choice.

Easier? Not sure... Cheaper? Definitely. When you build your own racks, you can ensure that they re a perfect fit for your room, number of animals, etc. When you buy a pre-made rack from one of the companies out there, aside from paying an arm and a leg, you get what they have. No room for discussion. I build all my own racks so that they suit MY needs and MY room. For a fraction of the price (about 1/10th).

They're racks are least expensive per level of all the major brands, yet are better for the animals and the keeper in terms of ventilation, ease of sanitization, flexibility, ease of setup, and ease and expense of moving and shipping.
Heck, the fact that they come with heavy-duty wheel assemblies alone is enough to make ME buy them!

ARS Caging
I just received the hatchling rack from them and it's fantastic.
You could def build your own for a lot cheaper if you are into DIY projects. It's not that difficult if you have the basic tools needed. I would try a google search for DIY racks, lots of info out there on them.

I agree-We have a 30-drawer ARS cb-70 size unit, and I would rate it as slightly better than the Vision equivalent-mostly due to the permanent molded-in deli cup holder for water. But the ARS unit is FAR more expensive per tub-so if you have the funds, go for it. For myself the slight extra utility doesn't justify the expense.
