New Crestie......have some questions

Bethstang Sep 05, 2003 09:25 AM

I just received a crestie hatchling on Wednesday. I have
her in a critter keeper right now. She hasn't eaten yet
and I wondering if that is due to stress and how long
can she go without eating before I should get concerned?
She is very alert and active. Also, how can I keep the
humidity level up in the critter keeper?

Thanks,
Beth

What are you offering for food? Do you know what it was being fed before you purchased it?

Beth,
Well if it was just born (and I hope it wasn’t, irresponsible of the breeder to sell that early) it may be a few days before the little guy eats. Young cresties love crix, so offer 3-4 at a time until he begins to take them. This way he is not stressed from too many crix running around, once he begins to feed you can offer as many as he will eat. You also did not mention what temps you are keeping him at. It should be around 75-78F and kept steady 24 hours a day would be best. If you are having problems heating the critter keeper, place it in a larger 10 gallon glass tank with a heat lamp on top. Just be careful what wattage bulb you pick. As far as humidity goes the ambient room humidity should be fine. Just spray once lightly in the evening so he can drink, as it might take awhile before he gets used to standing water. If you have anymore q’s and I am sure you do just drop me an e-mail (up top) and I will send you a complete interactive care guide, has everything you need to know. Best of luck!
-Mike
