Eggs not hatching

HalfDead Sep 04, 2008 02:07 PM

On august 30th it was exactly 60 days for the eggs, so now we are in the 80's as far as days.

They are incubating at about 75-77 deg
I know its a little cold but This is my first clutch
and the eggs seem good, nice and white, they started to pucker a little and there is a sleight dimpling and the humidity is set right.

do I manually pip them? help please?

I've had kingsnake eggs go 84 days easy at temps that varied but were a bit cooler than most people offer. Snakes hatched just fine, just took longer.

I say be patient another week before trying to slit one open.

"On august 30th it was exactly 60 days for the eggs, so now we are in the 80's as far as days".

Its only been 65 days, that's not too long.

I'm thinking at those cooler temps, and your description of them "dimpling", they will start hatching ANYTIME now,....I would just be patient and let them be for a while longer.

I'm waiting on some Cal king eggs too, and am just dieing with anticipation. lol Why hasn't anyone mentioned the eggs start to soften up a little a week or so before they hatch? I'm sure it doesn't only happen to me.

well, how about that! I can't remember touching any eggs very much after I put them in incubation substrate.... I guess you learn something new every dayor two. I will have to watch for that next year.

Some of the eggs I hatch out do that and some don't. I've seen 'em look like they're about to explode and hatch the next day. A clutch of hondos that just hatched all shrank up almost to the point of me getting worried about them! No worries, they are all out and huge (compared to most of my other snakes).
Think Like DaveB and just put 'em up and forget aout 'em for a while.

You sound like a nervous father outside of the delivery room.If those eggs were bad you would have know it by now. Longer hatch time means bigger babys and thats a good thing.

Not exactly Doug.. if it takes really long time to hatch because of low temp then it is so bad as fast hatching due to hi temps. Result is the same, dead or bad hatchlings, only reasons and sympthons are diff..

75-77 degs is by no means low temps.I wonder what the temp. range is in the wild where they lay their eggs. What temps. do you use?

I have approx 83F/28,5C. Working well for me.

Nope, that was not my point, pls see to which comment I was answerig. My intention was that is not so simple and not truth at the end that longer time it takes to hatch automaticly means that hatchlings will be more healthy.. nope.. there is some range which is ok.. and more you go below or above more damaged hatchlings you get..

.....they'd be at 65 days by my math

at that temp they'll take 75 or more maybe.it's up to them.

set and wait.all you can do...do not change temps now or you'll kill them......they either will hatch or die......which they can do anytime at any temp....

I lost a bunch of balls this week for no good reason.....?......we can't see what's going on in the eggs...we can just keep them as happy as we can.....

good luck
